Love is a fish Screening
LOVE IS A FISH -
dinner + a movie
On Saturday, March 1st, we will host a dinner-and-a-movie screening of LOVE IS A FISH, a short film by dear friends of ours, Sonoma’s own Conor Hagen and east-coaster (and honorary Sonoman) Chris Fischer.
Fish is a foundational part of the Japanese diet. Nowhere is that truth more apparent than in Hachijo Jima, an isolated Tokyo island hundreds of miles from mainland Japan.
Largely untouched by the tourism industry, fishing has sustained Hachijo Jima's people for centuries. During this time, laborers have developed a unique and loving relationship to the ocean and its bounties.
Peaceful, precise, and poignant - LOVE IS A FISH bears witness to the often overlooked period between a fish's capture and its consumption. The film is a quiet observation on the process and work involved in bringing fish from the sea to our tables.
The family-style dinner prepared to the theme of the movie is $50 per person (before tax, gratuity and optional beverages). Doors open at 5:30PM with the dinner starting at 6:00PM and screening and a conversation with the director during the meal. Seating will be communal and festive to encourage communication and connection. We hope you can join us.
Reserve your seat below and tickets will be sent to your email!

ONE TABLE @ VSC: A QUEER ITALIAN FEAST

Monday, June 24th, 2024 | 6:30PM
We’re excited to keep the Pride festivities flowing with another opportunity to wine, dine + celebrate, right here in the Sonoma Valley. Join us for an Italian-inspired feast—red checkered tablecloths and all—in collaboration with Deanna Maher, the heart and soul behind Brooklyn’s One Table Supper Club.
$55/person covers an abundant, family-style dinner, a cold beverage to greet you at the door, and a seat at the table. Plus, wine available to purchase by the bottle. Grab your ticket below to rub elbows with our incredible queer community.
PS—we’ll have Oakland’s Friends & Family in the house at Valley the evening beforehand (Sunday, June 23rd), if you’re up for double-trouble!
ABOUT One Table
One Table began in 2013 as a dream of Deanna’s—a long table to gather, sit and dine as queers in the city. With a lot of work and determination, it blossomed into a reality. Popping up around Brooklyn, One Table was a great way to meet like-minded people. A place to forget decision making and just be fed. Lots of magic, connection and even love went down these evenings.
Emma and Deanna met working together at Prune in 2011, and would later make buttermilk pies with green tomato jam for the first One Table gathering. Steph met Deanna at the opening celebration for another good friend’s restaurant, Cervo's, several years later.
Deanna has been LA-based the past few years, during which time we've been dreaming of hosting a One Table party here in Sonoma. As she prepares for a move back to NYC later this summer, this year's Pride felt like the perfect opportunity to make it happen.

C. CASSIS X VALLEY SWIM CLUB
We’re thrilled to welcome our good friend Rachael for a special happy hour featuring her incredible and idiosyncratic blackcurrant aperitif, C. Cassis. We’ll be working up some extra special C. Cassis-based cocktails—like the launch of the VSC House Spritz!—alongside some delicious seafood bites.
A can’t miss opportunity to meet a trailblazing producer and let your taste buds explore.
** Our usual VSC Happy Hour 3-5pm, Rachael onsite 4-6pm! **
ABOUT RACHAEL + C. CASSIS
Before founding C. Cassis, Rachael spent her time at the intersection of food, art, wine and agriculture. From cooking in CA where she's from and working as a baby wine runner at Chez Panisse to farming in France, hosting a pop-up restaurant at her apartment in Spain, and a decade producing events in NY, the collective knowledge of all these pursuits comes together now around blackcurrants.
She makes everything by hand and has created something sensorially transportive, rooted in winemaking, while super grounded in the ag and ethos of NY's Hudson Valley. She's interested in beverage as a connector and ecological advocate, but mostly hopes that C. Cassis brings everyone who drinks it some joy.
